The bundled Windows 9X H.323 software provides most of the basic call features either from the computer GUI or from an attached telephone handset. The PhoneJack card and software provides an interface to standard a phone handset. The LineJack adds an interface to a PSTN/POTS line and the ability to gateway calls from an H.323 connection to a phone line. QuickNet also provide a Windows SDK, and a binary-only Linux driver. Non-H.323 Linux applications software is also available as Open Source. DC-Share DC-Share for UNIX is an H.323 and T.120 audio, video and data conferencing product for UNIX that interoperates fully with Microsoft's NetMeeting. DC-Share for UNIX is available on AIX, and also as part of Sun's SunForum, SGI's SGImeeting, and Hewlett-Packard's HP VISUALIZE CONFERENCE products (submitted by Martin Firth) More info to follow SunForum Workgroup Collaboration Tools SunForum's – Sun's free H323 client for Solaris. Its history goes back to Sun ShowMe, which I reviewed in SunExpert Magazine in January, 1993, page 70 (this was long before the Microhordes even knew there was an Internet). SunForum V3 might look a lot like a "clone" of MS-NetMeeting, and they have certainly built the GUI that way, but much of the guts of the program seems to be based on ShowMe. It interoperates nicely with NetMeeting (as of 1996)." (submitted by Ian Darwin, [email protected]) SunForum is not based on ShowMe, but on DC-Share. It interoperates very nicely with NetMeeting because that too includes DC-Share technology (submitted by Martin Firth). |
