Heidisql is a free and open-source administration tool for MySQL. It is a graphical interface for handling MariaDB or MySQL. Heidi enables us to browse and edit the data, edit and create tables, views, procedures, triggers and scheduled events. It is free and easy to learn. It was invented in 2002.

  3. Create a .txt file in the root of your C drive.
  4. Name this file, “MySQL-init.txt”. So now it should look like this:
  5. C:\mysql-init.txt
  6. Type this in your text file, then save and close your file:
  7. SET PASSWORD FOR ‘root’@’localhost’ = PASSWORD(‘MyNewPassword’);
  8. Go to START -> RUN and type: NET STOP MYSQL
  9. Go to START -> RUN and type: cmd
  10. Paste this: “C:\Program Files\MySQL\MySQL Server 5.0\bin\mysqld-nt.exe” –defaults-file=”C:\Program Files\MySQL\MySQL Server 5.0\my.ini” –init-file=C:\mysql-init.txt
  11. And you’re done. 
  12. Now log into your MySQL server with HeidiSQL using your new password for ‘root.’
