The player controls the character known as Bomberman. The Bomberman can walk in eight directions and use bombs anywhere. Bomberman 64 features the effect of a bomb with explosion waves of spherical pattern, unlike other Bomberman games that featured the traditional cross-shaped bombs. The player can pick up and throw the bombs without the power-ups. The player cannot jump or swim in the water, although he can wade in shallow water. To help the Bomberman reach higher areas, the player has to bounce across the bombs that require a power up to avoid the timed bombs exploding early.
Features of Bomberman 64 are as follows:
The player can access any one of the four anchors that are available in the game. There are four stages in every anchor. In the adventure stages that are the first and the third stage of the anchor, the player can move forward by solving different puzzles and finding his way towards the goal arrow. The boss stages are the second and fourth stage where the player must battle with one of the enemy’s subordinates and defeat them.
Pump the bomb:
Bomberman 64 features a new power-up where the player can pump a bomb while holding it. This is very helpful as it makes the bomb’s explosion more powerful. Once a bomb is pumped it cannot be kicked or picked up again.
In this game, the player can collect five gold cards at every stage. There are a total of 100 cards in this game. When the player collects all the cards, he can unlock the secret world also known as the Rainbow Palace. The player can access more courses in the multiplayer mode after collecting the additional 20 gold cards.
In this game, the player dies when he takes damage. If the player has a “heart” power-up and he gets hit, he will not die but instead, lose a heart. When the player dies the power-ups obtained by him get scattered all over the place. In the single-player normal mode, when the player takes damage it drops his heart and if it does not bounce, he can pick it up again to survive the damage.
